I've got an '01 X-Fly and I've been kind of ignoring the rebound setting for a long time. Started messing around with it tonight, wondering if I can improve the performance on the fork (which I already like very much).
All the manual says is (and I'm quoting now): 'To adjust, always start from the minimum damping setting, i.e. Unscrew completely counterclockwise. About 8 turns - abt. 4mm of the adjustment - are possible' That's it! Nothing about 'turn the adjustment clockwise until. Can anyone offer some insight here?
You can download the complete version of the 2009 owner manual from internet at www.marzocchi. Inside MARZOCCHI forks you will find coil springs, or air, used as. Thanks, -jerry. There's a few factors that go into the rebound damping setting. Some of it is personal preference, some is dependent on the fork configuration. I like my forks setup lite on the rebound damping if I lay off the preload/spring rate. Rollei df s 60 se software download. If I crank the damping on a lite spring rate, then the fork dives and stays down too much and is too slow. Lay off and it's responsive and springy.
When I crank up the spring rate, however, I crank up the rebound damping so the increased rate doesn't overpower the damping and buck me. So if I find myself bouncing all over the place on the front end and feel a clunking when I lift up the fork, I know to increase damping. If the fork feels lethargic, I lay off a bit.
Another thing is, what works at City Park may not be the best for Walnut Creek. Experiment a bit. Set it all the way open and ride a bit and see how it feels. Plow through some rock fields and get an idea. Then crank it down halfway and test again, then all the way and again.

Toonces is right - I have an 01 X-Fly also (great fork). Go to your favorite trail (what you want the fork optimized for) - and try different settings (bring the shock pump, set preload, then set mping.) Ride over the same section a few times w/ different settings - try the extremes so you know what too much/little damping feels like. My fav place is city park, so I have low preload and pretty low damping - I ride the same settings at Walnut b/c I'm lazy, but a plush ride is nice even there. Main thing I notice w/ too low damping is when you quickly pull up the front, the fork will shoot out hard. Originally posted by jdub Toonces - Thanks for all the detail! Sounds like I just need to go play around with it some more.

Accumbens - How much do you weigh and what air pressure do you run in yours? I weight 230 (actually down to 225 now) and the manual says for my weight it should be set to 3.3-3.7 bar -- 3.5 bar works out to about 50 psi and if I put 50 psi in this thing it's like a rigid fork!
I've been running it between 35-40 psi. I weigh 158 and run about 24psi I think (been a while since I aired it up). When I first got it - the guy aired it to 30 and it was stiff as hell.

You can also call them, they seemed to have great support the few times I've called. Data - Been to their site. The recommended weight/pressure setting I posted above is from the service manual (which doesn't have much detail at all about tuning, and only mentions SAE 7.5 weight oil). I really am happy with the fork the way it is and was just curious about the rebound, however.your comments about changing the weight of the oil make me even more curious about improvements I might be able to make. What effect would the 10 weight have, and would I use the same amount as listed for the 7.5 weight? Jdub.toonces has it.it's all feel and preference. A lot of the manufactureres offer suggested settings in their manuals.and think of them as such.suggestions.
